“O lord, why me? Why have you chosen to forsake me? After leaving my job in an oil and gas company, Lord really? You are doing this to me? After I rejected that offer of being a senior pastor in the U.S, I left my comfort zone to this strange land to preach the gospel you sent me to do. What did I do to deserve this?” Lekan sobs…
Lekan’s house in Lekki had just got burnt. “Why did this happen? “Had been the only question in his heart. Was it that he was not serving God wholeheartedly? Of course, no. He had been a faithful servant on the mission field. He had won so many souls for Christ, yet things had been difficult for him, from not been able to provide his daughter’s tuition fee in the university, to his wife divorcing him for leaving his job and going on the mission field, to his house getting burnt. He quickly concluded probably he didn’t hear God well about the call into the mission field. He began to pack his belongings to leave the God’s work and focus on himself and family only. While packing, one of the missionaries sent to the village came in.
“Brother Lekan, you are packing all your belongings? Hope this is not what I am thinking? Lekan refused to respond. “Common, brother Lekan, I know things have been difficult lately, but you can’t run away from God!”
“But he can take away what I have right?” Lekan said harshly.
“See, like I said, there is no way you are running away from God. You should not displease him, Jonah tried to do so but he met a bigger challenge, he was in the belly of a fish for good three days and three nights because of his disobedience to God. I know this period is hard for you, but God’s strength is available for you. The strength to continue the work is available. Psalm 73: 26” My flesh and my heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” Psalm 46:1 also says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble.” Run to God to help you and strengthen you this season, believe that everything is going to be fine by God’s grace and remember, “Everything works together for those that loves God and who are called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28
Lekan was touched by his words, and they prayed earnestly together for strength.
Dearly beloved, do not get swallowed up by the problem that surrounds you, always ask for strength from God.
