SUMMARY OF THE OUTREACH
Our first missionary outreach and interview happened on Tuesday, 25th of March 2025 at Ejioku, Ibadan, Oyo State. A team of six people embarked on this journey, including two LSMN workers, two volunteers, and two elders, one of whom is Pastor Latunde Akin.
The missionary, Pastor Peter Omojola shared his bitter-sweet experiences with being a missionary for 24 years. The interview questions and answers covered his family life, his current health situation, his ministry, including the Bible study group he leads, peculiar challenges with being a full-time missionary, his personal and ministry needs, and other crucial information relating to his life and ministry.
While he was narrating his exploits in ministry, he burst into a fit of tears. It was about his health condition. He was afflicted with paralysis in both hands and feet in 2024 which has confined him to a wheelchair and restricted his physical movement. It began with his fingers being unable to move till it spread to other parts of his body and made him immobile. Though his condition is gradually improving with medications, he is yet to stand on his feet.
Hunger, he said, is also part of the hardship that comes with being a missionary. He sometimes converts his hunger into fasting and the end of the fast is determined by the availability of food. According to him, every missionary must be able to fast because there won’t always be food.
In the midst of all these, he is supported by his brother and kind brethren. His obedience and doggedness to serve as a full-time time missionary left a crack in his familial cohesion.
But in spite of these challenges he raised, he is more moved by the impact of his obedience to God’s call. He heads a Bible study group where he teaches and trains younger men in ministry. His joy, according to him, is seeing the people he has trained become teachers of the Word themselves and doing great things in the kingdom.
As he spoke, you could see boldness in his eyes and hear an undaunting resolve in his voice not to back out of what God had called him to do. He said poignantly, “I have never thought about quitting”. He believes he will be back on his feet again and will return fully to ministry.
After the interview, Mr. Latunde Akin exhorted him in the word and prayed with him. The whole team came together also to pray for him.
Lastly, we gave him our token of support to assist him with his pressing needs, which included his prescribed medications, a bag of rice, fruits, and a hamper.
Other priority needs he highlighted are the completion of his church building, getting a generator set, and a keyboard.
Pastor Peter’s experience and endurance reflect what Paul said about enduring hard times as a good soldier of Christ, “And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble.” 2 Corinthians 4:17 GNT.
